Modern Dongguan · choose one public shore
Songshan Lake: choose a public route, not a list of corporate landmarks
Walk the reopened Songhu Yanyu shore between the Qinyuan Road and University Road East entrances, rather than trying to circle the whole lake. The southern shore has construction restrictions, and Huawei’s working campus remains separate from the public park.

Why visit Songshan Lake
The lake district shows Dongguan's recent research-and-technology geography at a human pace: campuses, public parks, housing and water sit beside one another rather than in a sealed business zone.
Its weakness is the same as its appeal: there is no single must-see object. The visit becomes good only after choosing a route that matches weather, transport and how much walking or cycling you actually want.

How to plan the visit
- 01
Start at the Qinyuan Road entrance, explicitly named in the September 2026 reopening notice. Choose a taxi drop-off here rather than the broad Songshan Lake map label.
- 02
Follow the signed public shore towards the University Road East entrance. For a short outing, walk for 30–45 minutes and return the same way; one to one-and-a-half hours is an editorial estimate for this out-and-back.
- 03
Finish at the same Qinyuan Road pickup point. Nanhu Bay, entered from Wanhui Yungu, is a separate open alternative rather than an extension across the closed shore.
What fits on the same day
- 01
One public park or shore segment
- 02
A nearby meal and direct return, rather than another distant Dongguan town
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can tourists visit Huawei's European-style campus?
Do not assume so. It is an active corporate campus, not a public attraction. Use public viewpoints only unless Huawei or a local authority publishes a current visitor programme.
Can I walk around the whole lake?
Not while the southern shore remains closed for works. Use the reopened Qinyuan Road–University Road East section and return to your agreed pickup point. The expected end-of-November completion date is not confirmation that the full circuit has reopened.
How do I reach Songshan Lake now?
Metro Line 1 and intercity rail improve the regional approach, but the final connection depends on the shore or park you choose. Plan that last leg before buying a through ticket.
