Two-day road-based guide

One night in Kaiping: diaolou fields, then Chikan town

Day one stays in Tangkou for Zili and Li Garden. Day two checks out for Chikan before returning to Kaiping South or the next city.

Timings include walking, transfers, meals and at least 25% buffer.

On-location view

This plan uses two complete days and one Tangkou-area night. It avoids changing hotels again inside Kaiping, but luggage must travel with you or remain securely stored on day two.

Chikan replaces a second rural cluster. Travelers more interested in village landscapes can substitute Majianglong and keep the same overnight base and luggage arrangements.

Zili Village
Enter the Tangkou village site and follow the fields towards Mingshi Lou, then the open lanes and towers around Anheli, Heanli and Yonganli. Ask which interiors are open and retain the ticket: individual buildings can check it again. Allow roughly two hours and confirm the buildings open on the day.

Tangkou lunch and rest
Use the base for a proper meal and at least 45 minutes out of peak heat.

Li Garden
Meet your car at the agreed Zili exit and drive to the Li Garden entrance in Tangkou. Walk the water garden and paths to the villa group and Panli Lou, then return through the covered corridors. Have your ticket ready at the entrance and allow about 1.5–2 hours for the visit.

Return and stay local for dinner
Do not drive to another heritage cluster after dark. Choose a Tangkou or central-Kaiping meal and protect sleep.

Day 2 · Chikan commercial town

Base: Check out from Tangkou
Arrival: Leave Tangkou after breakfast around 09:00
Return: Leave Chikan by mid-afternoon for Kaiping South or the next base
Walking: Mostly town walking; luggage remains secured

Start with the river-and-arcade overview, then select only the interpretation spaces that match your interests.

Chikan food stop
Choose either claypot rice with its cooking wait or a lighter tofu-corner snack and meal. Verify whether the venue sits inside the ticketed area.

Leave for the station or next base
Build the road transfer, station navigation and at least 45 minutes of departure buffer into the booked train or onward journey.

Recheck before travel

Current Chikan tickets, events and access rules require a live official check.
Do not leave luggage unattended at an informal roadside point.
Majianglong is a valid day-two alternative, not an addition after Chikan.
Use the Chikan operator’s current ticket and access rules for day two. Arrange Tangkou → Chikan → Kaiping South with the same car or confirmed separate pickups; the town visit does not include a guaranteed through shuttle.
Zili Village, Li Garden and Majianglong form the commonly advertised three-site product. Jinjiangli is separate. Confirm travel-date inclusions and open interiors at the desk; a current inter-site shuttle timetable has not been established here.
