Longer trails need an earlier start
The operator’s route categories have different walking times and terrain. A longer or steeper route needs an earlier start and more time for food and the journey out.

Route decision · Mount Danxia
Choose between a cable-car-assisted Changlao walk and a steep climb before entering. Both involve stone steps; the Yangyuan–Ximei cliffs belong to a different visitor area.
Start with location, transport, tickets and hours—then decide if it fits your plan.

03 · About this place
The official Changlao recommendations span about three to six hours, with different surfaces and climb intensity.
The Ximei and Jiujitian section is visually dramatic because it is steep and exposed; that same quality creates the travel risk.

05 · Visit tips
A practical visit order and pace—not a full-day itinerary.
01For less climbing, use scenic bus A and the cable car, then follow the official Tuo Stone–Baozhu Peak–Dragon King Spring–Changlao route. Ask staff to mark the open downhill path and whether the Xianglong Lake boat is running; the return is not automatically a cable-car ride.
02The hiking option starts from the Changlao entrance and climbs past Biezhuan Temple towards Guanri Pavilion, then follows the signed descent towards Yixian Sky and Xianglong Lake. Skip it if knees, heat or wet rock make a long stair descent unsuitable.
03For a train home, choose the station before hiking. The operator lists a last scenic-area bus at 16:15 to high-speed Shaoguan Station, versus 19:10 to Shaoguan East. These are published service times, not guaranteed travel-day departures; confirm the stop and last bus at the outer gate that morning.
