Public river walk · west bank

Han River promenade

Walk out through Guangji Gate to see Guangji Bridge from the west bank of the Han River. This short riverfront walk fits between visits in the old city, with a wider view of the water after the narrow streets.

Start with location, transport, tickets and hours—then decide if it fits your plan.

03 · About this place

About this place

Chaozhou’s official old-city routes link the central streets with the riverfront and bridge rather than treating them as unrelated zones.

For a traveler, it is the easiest low-intensity segment to place before breakfast, after dinner or between indoor heritage stops.

On a cool day, continue farther along the bank. In heat or rain, stay near Guangji Bridge and Guangji Gate so you can return to the old-city streets quickly.

05 · Visit tips

How a visit usually unfolds

A practical visit order and pace—not a full-day itinerary.

  1. 01

Begin outside Guangji Gate on the Han River’s west bank. Choose a short signed promenade section with a clear view of Guangji Bridge and return to the gate; around 30–45 minutes is our suggestion for a pause after the old-city lanes.

  2. 02

Keep outside ticket barriers unless you intend to buy bridge admission. The expanded west bridgehead opened in October 2026 with controlled visitor areas, so an older description of the entire waterfront as freely accessible may no longer apply.

  3. 03

Return through Guangji Gate and Dongmen Street for food or your agreed old-city pickup. If you want a night view, check the current lighting notice separately; this walk does not require an east-bank crossing or a promised light show.

Practical notes

  • Open sections amplify summer heat, wind and rain.
  • Temporary event barriers can alter the most direct walking line.

Nearby

  • Guangji Gate and Guangji Bridge define the central segment.
  • Paifang Street is a short walk back inside the old city.
