About this place

The historic-city protection plan identifies Kaiyuan Temple among Chaozhou’s nationally protected cultural sites.

For travelers, the spatial sequence matters as much as any single object: gates, courtyards and halls gradually reduce the noise of the commercial streets outside.

Let the courtyards slow the old-city day

Step in from busy Kaiyuan Road and take time to look at the halls and timber details. Keep voices low and leave space for worshippers.

05 · Visit tips

How a visit usually unfolds

A practical visit order and pace—not a full-day itinerary.

  1. 01

Approach the temple entrance on Kaiyuan Road from the Taiping Road / Paifang Street junction. Check the entrance notice before joining the visitor line; the temple’s current religious-event arrangements take priority over a timetable copied from a travel page.

  2. 02

Follow the central courtyards through the open halls and return by the permitted visitor route. Observe incense and photography rules, and do not enter a hall reserved for worship simply because its doors are open.

  3. 03

We suggest around 45–75 minutes before returning to Paifang Street for food or continuing towards Guangji Gate. We have not confirmed a current passport-specific booking requirement; check with the temple before treating any online form as compulsory.

Practical notes

  • Worship areas and photography rules take priority over visitor convenience.
  • Check the temple's current visitor notice before setting a fixed arrival time. Religious events can change access to particular halls.

Nearby

  • Paifang Street is a short old-city walk away.
  • Xu Fuma Mansion adds a domestic-architecture contrast.
