About this place
Shiwan’s ceramic industry is one of Foshan’s deepest local stories still visible on the ground. The kilns make that story physical: stepped roofs climbing the slope, workshops, and clay process.
Entry windows, evening openings and pottery workshops vary by period. Check the scenic-area notice before travel and confirm any hands-on session separately rather than assuming it is bundled with entry.
Geographically it belongs to Shiwan, separate from the Zumiao core and from Shunde’s Daliang gardens—plan transport as its own transfer.

Visit order
Roofs first, DIY second, shopping last
Check the day’s entry window before lunch and arrive with transfer buffer. Walk kiln exteriors first, then an optional pre-confirmed pottery session, then shops.
A simple lunch near the kiln streets keeps the craft day practical. Return to Lingnan Tiandi for dinner.
Hands-on
Pottery time is a different visit length
If you join wheel throwing or hand-building, budget well beyond a photo loop—especially with children. Demo performances of throwing or calligraphy may appear through the day.

How a visit usually unfolds
A practical visit order and pace—not a full-day itinerary.

Take Foshan Metro Line 2 to Shiwan, then use walking navigation to the 南风古灶 entrance on Gaomiao Road. From Zumiao this means changing lines; a licensed taxi is simpler when the group has luggage or limited walking tolerance.

After the entrance, see the Nanfeng and Gao dragon kilns before browsing the pottery lanes. Follow the sloping kiln bodies from the lower firing end towards the upper roofs where the visitor path permits; this is an active heritage site, so do not enter working areas.

Ask a workshop about its activity length, price and collection or shipping arrangements before paying. Clay work is not necessarily ready to take away the same day. We suggest 2–3 hours for the kilns and lanes, longer for a booked class; return to Shiwan station by the same walking route.
Practical notes
- Open yards and slopes get hot—carry water and a hat.
- DIY and performance demo slots change; confirm on arrival.
- Some travelers finish a photo loop in ~90 minutes; if you skip DIY, you may not need half a day—but do not cut the visit so short that the kilns never register.
