Huizhou West Lake is most useful as the calm centre of a Huicheng day. Walk one meaningful lake section, keep time for the Su Dongpo story, then cross towards Chaojing Gate and Shuidong Street when the old city begins to wake up in the late afternoon.

Can I walk the whole lake?
You can walk far more than most first visits need. A selected section plus the old city usually produces a better day than chasing the entire shoreline.
Is Huizhou West Lake a day trip from Shenzhen?
It can be after confirming the actual station and both hotel-to-station legs. Keep the day to Huicheng and do not add Luofu Mountain or the coast.
