Huizhou West Lake: build one walk from water to old streets
Huizhou West Lake is an easy first stop in Huicheng: begin at Pinghu Gate, walk Su Causeway towards Sizhou Tower, and return to the lake’s eastern edge. Chaojing Gate and Shuidong Street are separate onward walks or short car journeys, not the exit of the same lakeside path.

The lake is not separate from Huizhou's city history: bridges, gardens and the Su Dongpo story give the water a human scale.

How to plan the visit

Use 惠州西湖平湖门 on Huancheng West Road as the starting point. From Xihu East intercity station, follow walking navigation to this entrance; Huizhou North high-speed station is a different, more distant arrival and needs a road transfer.

Walk from Pinghu Gate along Su Causeway towards Sizhou Tower and the Dongpo-related sites on the signed paths. Return to Pinghu Gate for a simple out-and-back; the tower’s exterior can be viewed without assuming that the tower itself is open to climb. We suggest 1.5–2 hours, including stops.

After leaving the lake, use city streets or a short taxi to Chaojing Gate, then navigate separately across towards Shuidong Street on the East River side. Add roughly 45–60 minutes for the onward walking and pauses, as our estimate; use a car instead if the group has already had enough walking.

How long do I need at Huizhou West Lake?
Allow 1.5–2 hours for the short Pinghu Gate–Su Causeway out-and-back described above, or three to four hours to explore more of the lake. With Chaojing Gate, Shuidong Street and a meal, allow four to seven hours.
Can I walk the whole lake?
You can walk far more than most first visits need. A selected section plus the old city usually produces a better day than chasing the entire shoreline.
Is Huizhou West Lake a day trip from Shenzhen?
It can be after confirming the actual station and both hotel-to-station legs. Keep the day to Huicheng and do not add Luofu Mountain or the coast.
