Xiachuan Island: ferry chain, overnight plan and weather buffer
Xiachuan is not a beach reached by one taxi pin. Travellers first reach Shan'zui Port, cross by ferry and continue by island transport to Wangfuzhou. Staying at least one night turns that chain into a trip rather than a race against the return sailing.

Stay on the island for time on the beach and a visit to the fishing harbour.
Fishing settlements, working harbour and resort beach show more than one side of the coast when time is left to move slowly.

How to plan the visit

Travel to 山咀港 passenger terminal on the mainland, buy a passenger sailing to 下川岛独湾港, then take the island road transfer to 王府洲旅游区. These are three separate legs. The vehicle ferry has different rules and should not be booked as though it were an ordinary passenger boat.

Check the day’s outward and return sailings through the port’s own sales desk. The municipal transport directory identifies the operator and port office; a travel agent’s “Chuandao Tourism” website is a seller, not proof of the port’s live schedule. Ask the desk about passport ticketing if the online form fails.

Stay near Wangfuzhou Bay for the arrival afternoon and a short next-morning walk. Arrange the hotel-to-Duwan transfer before leaving the hotel, allowing check-in and queues at the port. One night leaves only two partial days; two nights give a full day without a ferry transfer.

Wind, sea conditions and crowd controls can change departures. Keep a mainland overnight option and avoid a non-refundable flight or the last train immediately after the planned return boat. We deliberately do not freeze a weather-dependent last sailing in this guide.

Can Xiachuan Island be a day trip?
A technical same-day return may exist on some dates, but it leaves little margin across road, ferry and island transfers. For a first trip, stay at least one night.

Use Shan'zui Port as the mainland ferry POI, then follow the current operator's island transfer arrangement to Wangfuzhou.
What happens in bad weather?
Operations can change. Keep a flexible hotel policy, monitor official notices and never place an irreplaceable onward flight or train immediately after the planned ferry.
