A day on Xiqiao Mountain

Xiqiao Mountain day trip: Baiyun Cave and Tianhu Park

Start at Baiyun Cave, take the cable car to Tianhu Park and return the same way. Check entry reservations and transport, with time for the journey back to your hotel.

Timings include walking, transfers, waiting, wayfinding, meals and at least 25% buffer.

This version uses the west entrance at Baiyun Cave, rides the cable car up to Tianhu Park and returns by the same route. It suits a shorter mountain visit without assuming that every summit or religious venue can be included.

The current operator notice makes park admission free with an entry reservation through the 西樵山 or 南海西樵 WeChat account. Cable cars, sightseeing buses and religious venues are separate. The south entrance is for sightseeing-bus access and does not admit walkers.

    Car to the west entrance

    Navigate to 西樵山白云洞西门 rather than the generic mountain pin. Confirm the return meeting point with the driver; check road traffic from your actual hotel.

    Baiyun Cave and the cable car

    Present the entry reservation, then buy the cable-car product you need. The operator currently lists RMB 35 one way or RMB 55 return; check service and the last downward departure at the lower station.

    Tianhu Park on foot

    From the upper cable-car station, follow the signed Tianhu Park paths and return the way you came. Keep this to a short lakeside outing; do not assume a verified through-walk to Nanhai Guanyin.

    Lunch and a rest

    Carry a simple lunch or confirm an open food outlet near the upper station before walking away. Allow roughly an hour to eat and sit down.

    Return to the cable car

    Retrace the Tianhu paths. Turn back sooner if heat, rain or queues are building; this is an editorial half-day outing, not a tested summit circuit.

    Downhill and the car home

    Be back at the lower station well before the published 17:30 cable-car closing time. A closure can alter the descent, so ask staff before continuing if service changes.

Recheck before travel

  • The park currently lists 07:30–17:30 and cable cars/sightseeing buses 08:00–17:30. Treat these as published service windows; weather can stop transport earlier.
  • If Nanhai Guanyin is the main goal, arrange a different gate-and-bus visit with the park; religious-venue admission is separate from free mountain entry.
