01
Why visit Baiyun Mountain
Baiyun Mountain gives Guangzhou a forested horizon close to the dense city. Long ridges, local exercise culture and changing views over the urban plain shape the visit more than any single summit.
Its network of gates and internal transport also makes route planning unusually important. Two visitors can both say they went to Baiyun Mountain while walking very different distances and seeing different sections.
02
How to shape the visit
- 01
Choose the exact gate and define one main objective, such as a ridge walk, a viewpoint or a lighter cable-car visit.
- 02
Check live weather, visibility and internal transport before leaving the hotel. Change the route if heat, rain or low cloud removes its value.
- 03
Keep enough time and energy for the descent. Do not assume the cable car or sightseeing vehicle will still be running when you reach it.

A first visit to Summit Square
Set your taxi destination to 白云山南门 on Guangyuan Road. From the South Gate, follow the signed main paved uphill route towards 山顶广场 (Summit Square), then return by the same route. This keeps the starting point and the hotel return simple.
Allow 60–90 minutes to walk up, a 30–45 minute rest and view at the square, then 60–90 minutes down with stops. These are relaxed planning allowances; queues, weather and your pace can extend the visit. Carry water and do not mistake Summit Square for the higher Moxing Summit.
For less climbing, the South Gate cable car reaches the Summit Square area. Confirm that it is operating and how you will descend before buying. Taking the cable car up and walking down is a shorter option, but it still involves slopes; visitors unable to walk down need a confirmed return ride.
Keep Moxing Summit as an optional longer climb, not an automatic next stop. After reaching the square, check the signed onward route, any separate admission and the remaining daylight. If energy or visibility is poor, enjoy the square and descend.
