Three Zhuhai walks that do not become a race

Use one bay, one old village or one island harbour as the whole subject of a walk.

Timings include walking, transfers, waiting, wayfinding, meals and at least 25% buffer.

Choose a Xianglu Bay coast walk, Beishan lanes around the ancestral hall, or a Guishan harbour walk after booking the ferry. These are three separate outings, each returning to a clear pickup or transport point.

Walk 1 · City Balcony to the Fisher Girl

    City Balcony or Xianglu Bay beach

    Start at City Balcony and descend by the signed public access to Xianglu Bay. Locate the toilets and drinking-water options before the coastal walk.

    Coastline details

    Follow the public Lovers’ Road waterfront towards the Fisher Girl. Allow 60–90 minutes with stops for the roughly 1.5–2 km section; this distance and time are planning estimates, not a surveyed accessible route.

    Fisher Girl or sunset pause

    Finish at the Fisher Girl, then meet a taxi at a permitted street pickup or retrace the waterfront. Do not continue as far as the Grand Theatre simply because both are on the coast.

Walk 2 · Beishan before and after dark

    Village threshold

    Begin at Beishan Dayuan and walk the nearby village lanes towards the Yang Clan Ancestral Hall. Remain on public lanes; do not enter residential courtyards.

    Ancestral and residential fabric

    If open, visit the Yang Clan Ancestral Hall and nearby Yang Pao’an exhibition hall, then return towards Dayuan. Allow 2–3 hours for the lanes, an open exhibition and a drink; individual halls keep their own hours.

    The village changes register

    Eat near Beishan Dayuan, then leave from the same neighbourhood pickup. Music and evening venues are optional and depend on that night’s programme.

Walk 3 · Guishan pier, village and harbour

    Harbour orientation

    At Guishan passenger pier, find the return check-in point and confirm how early you must arrive. Leave luggage at the hotel only if staying overnight; keep the ferry ticket and original document with you.

    Settlement and working coast

    Follow Guishan Avenue towards Wen Tianxiang Square and the village/working harbour, then retrace the same streets. Allow 60–90 minutes for this short walk; do not confuse it with the island’s roughly 5 km greenway.

    One weather-suitable slope

    If time and public access permit, add the First Breakwater lighthouse as a separate out-and-back. Skip exposed seawalls in poor weather and return early for the ferry; no uphill extension is needed to complete the harbour walk.

Recheck before travel

  • Coastal shade is limited even when the route looks flat.
  • Respect homes and active worship spaces in old villages.
  • The island walk only exists after the sailing is confirmed.
