Hotel assumption

One base. Four different days.

The numbered areas show the main outings. Open a day to see its stops and transport.

Dashed lines connect places in visit order; they do not trace walking streets or Metro tracks. Pins show approximate places, not entrances. The hotel pin marks Gongyuanqian station, not a selected hotel. Tao Tao Ju is covered by the Beijing Road area pin. Use each named Google Maps link for directions.

Walking estimates include hotel journeys, station passages and museum visits. Steps use an illustrative 1,500 steps per kilometre, not a measured route. Your stride, hotel, exits and detours will change the total.

All times are local (UTC+8). Travel times, distances and queues are planning estimates, not live navigation.

Confirm these before using the plan

  1. Hotel and trains

Select the actual hotel and save its full Chinese address. Confirm breakfast, lift access, check-in and checkout, then recalculate every hotel walk. Buy the intended trains using the correct travel document; the arrival and departure times here are assumptions.

  2. Friday museum tickets

Use Chen Clan Ancestral Hall’s official booking channel and secure a morning slot. Confirm which identity document is accepted. If there is no morning ticket, remove the visit or adjust the day before travelling. The opera museum’s current admission procedure also needs checking.

  3. Saturday Royal Tomb reservation

Use the official 南越王博物院 WeChat service account, select 王墓展区 and reserve the 09:00 period if offered. Confirm the passport process with the museum on 020-36182920 if needed. Ordinary entry and the lower burial chamber have different reservations; this plan includes ordinary entry only.

  4. Meals, weather and phone

Confirm the exact restaurant branches, service times and table availability. Menu items, tea charges and prices are not fixed here. Set up mobile data and payment, save offline addresses, and check the forecast and operator notices again the evening before each day.

Thu 12 November

Arrive, settle in, eat nearby

About 2–3 km on footAbout 3,000–4,500 stepsEstimated at 1,500 steps per km, not measured.

A short first evening, including station and hotel walks.

Guangzhou South → Gongyuanqian hotel → Beijing Road → hotel

Metro, at a glanceLine 2 towards Jiahewanggang: Guangzhou South → Gongyuanqian

  1. 15:00–16:30

    Train arrival and hotel journey

Allow 25 minutes to leave the train, find the Metro and pass security. Take Line 2 towards Jiahewanggang, get off at Gongyuanqian, then walk to the hotel. The 90-minute allowance includes waiting, about 35–40 minutes on the train and the assumed ten-minute hotel walk. Keep the larger bag at the hotel for the rest of the stay.

    Guangzhou South railway station
  2. 16:30–17:30

Check in and take a real break

Unpack, charge the phone and check the next morning’s museum ticket. There is no timed attraction this evening, so a late train does not cost you a reservation.

  3. 17:30–19:15

    An easy first Cantonese dinner

Allow 20–25 minutes to walk from the assumed hotel area to the Beijing Road branch, including finding the seventh floor. For two, start with one small roast-meat plate, a vegetable and rice; ask what portion the kitchen can serve. Dim sum and individual dishes depend on that evening’s menu. Allow up to 30 minutes for a table, then shorten dinner or eat at the hotel if the train has left you tired.

Tao Tao Ju, Beijing Road Branch
  4. 19:15–20:00

Walk back; leave the sightseeing for Saturday

Return along Beijing Road and Zhongshan Fifth Road to Gongyuanqian. This is a short introduction to the neighbourhood, not a second sightseeing day. Aim to be back before 20:00.

  1. 07:45–09:00

Breakfast, then a short Metro ride

Eat a light hotel breakfast. Leave at 08:20, walk to Gongyuanqian and take Line 1 towards Xilang, two stops to Chen Clan Academy. Allow 40 minutes for the full journey, the museum entrance and the ticket check.

  2. 09:00–10:45

    Chen Clan Ancestral Hall

Follow the courtyards, then spend time on the ceramic figures and carvings above eye level. The sample uses a morning ticket; do not turn up with an afternoon slot. In November the published hours are 09:00–17:30, last entry 17:00, with Tuesday closure except public holidays. The full-price ticket is RMB 10 per adult. Recheck the official notice before paying.

    Chen Clan Ancestral Hall
  3. 10:45–12:45

Taxi to Panxi; lunch without rushing

Allow 30 minutes for finding a taxi and the ride to Longjin West Road, then 15 minutes to find the restaurant and ask for a table. Aim to sit down around 11:30. For two, begin with three or four dim sum baskets and tea, then add a vegetable only if still hungry. Ask about tea and other table charges before ordering. These are suggested portions, not a fixed menu or a booked table.

    Panxi Restaurant
  4. 12:45–14:30

A short Lychee Bay walk, then Enning Road

Walk by the water for 45–60 minutes, with a shaded sitting break. Around 13:45, allow 30–40 minutes for a taxi to the Enning Road area and the walk to the museum. Use the road entrance indicated by the driver; do not assume a car can reach every pedestrian lane.

    Lychee Bay
  5. 14:30–16:45

    Opera museum and Enning Road

Spend about an hour in the Cantonese Opera Art Museum, then take a café break and a short walk through Yongqing Fang. Admission procedures must be confirmed before travel; a performance is not included or guaranteed. Leave around 16:45 for the 20–25 minute walk to Wenchang South Road.

    Cantonese Opera Art Museum
  6. 17:15–18:45

    Dinner at Guangzhou Restaurant

The official branch page lists evening service from 17:00. Ask for one small Cantonese meat dish, one vegetable and rice for two; avoid a whole fish or whole chicken unless you want that much food. Confirm menu availability and a table in advance. The meal has 90 minutes, so there is no timed evening show to chase.

    Guangzhou Restaurant, Wenchang Main Branch
  7. 18:45–19:45

    Return to the hotel

Allow 15–20 minutes to walk to Changshou Lu station. Take Line 1 towards Guangzhou East, three stops to Gongyuanqian. The full hour includes the walk, station access, waiting and the final hotel walk. If you are tired, take a taxi directly to the saved hotel address instead.

Metro, at a glanceLine 2 towards Jiahewanggang: Gongyuanqian → Yuexiu Park, exit E

  1. 08:00–09:00

    Breakfast and Line 2 north

After hotel breakfast, leave at 08:20. From Gongyuanqian take Line 2 towards Jiahewanggang, two stops to Yuexiu Park. Use Exit E for the Royal Tomb site. Allow 40 minutes including both walks and entry checks.

  2. 09:00–11:15

Nanyue King Museum, Royal Tomb site

Use the Royal Tomb entrance at 867 Jiefang North Road, not the separate Royal Palace site. The published hours are 09:00–17:30 Tuesday to Sunday, last entry 17:00. Standard adult admission is RMB 10 and requires a named timed reservation. This sample does not include the separately reserved lower burial chamber. Check passport booking arrangements with the museum if the form cannot accept your document; do not substitute a different ID type.

Nanyue King Museum, Royal Tomb site
  3. 11:15–13:00

    Return to Gongyuanqian for lunch

Walk back to Yuexiu Park station and take Line 2 towards Guangzhou South, two stops to Gongyuanqian. Allow 45 minutes for the walks, station access and ride, then about an hour for lunch near the hotel. The lunch venue will be selected once the hotel is confirmed. For two, one individual noodle or rice dish each is a simple starting order; check ingredients and portions before ordering.

    Gongyuanqian station
  4. 13:00–16:00

Back to the hotel for the afternoon

After lunch, walk back to the hotel and rest until 16:00. Friday is the longer day, so this afternoon is free for a nap, charging the phone or simply sitting down. Recalculate the short return walk when the hotel and lunch venue are selected.

    Gongyuanqian station
  5. 16:00–19:00

Beijing Road at your own pace

Walk 15–20 minutes from the hotel area to the pedestrian street. See the street-level archaeological displays and browse only while you still feel like walking. For dinner, use the same Tao Tao Ju branch as Thursday: start with three or four dim sum baskets for two, if served at dinner, instead of repeating a full roast-meat meal. Keeping a familiar restaurant removes another search; if Thursday’s visit fell through, this is your second chance. Verify evening dishes when confirming the table.

    Beijing Road
  6. 19:00–20:00

Return, pack and check the train

Walk back to Gongyuanqian and pack tonight. Check the departure station reads 广州南, the date and the passenger name match your travel document, and the ticket is confirmed. Ask reception about tomorrow’s checkout and store the hotel’s Chinese address offline.

Metro, at a glanceLine 2 towards Guangzhou South: Gongyuanqian → Guangzhou South terminus

  1. 08:30–10:30

    Breakfast and final packing

Eat at the hotel, refill water and keep your travel document, ticket and charger in the small bag. No attraction is scheduled. Have an early snack before checkout or take food for the journey; a station restaurant queue is not part of the transfer allowance.

  2. 10:30–11:15

    Check out with all luggage

Settle the room and leave reception by 11:15. Luggage storage is unnecessary because you are going directly to the station. The sample assumes normal walking and manageable bags; arrange a taxi earlier if either changes.

  3. 11:15–12:45

Line 2 straight to Guangzhou South

Walk to Gongyuanqian and take Line 2 towards Guangzhou South, its terminal. Keep the full 90 minutes for the hotel walk, lifts, waiting, 35–40 minutes on the train and finding railway departures with luggage. Aim to have completed railway ID and security checks by 12:45. Follow the departure boards for the gate and its actual closing time.

    Guangzhou South railway station
  4. 12:45–14:00

    Wait near the correct gate

Buy only a quick snack if needed, use the toilet and stay near the displayed gate. The 75-minute margin is a planning buffer, not a promise about how long station procedures take. The fictional 14:00 departure is not a ticket or an identified train service.

A royal tomb, an afternoon rest, Beijing Road

About 4–6 km on footAbout 6,000–9,000 steps

Hotel → Royal Tomb site → Gongyuanqian lunch → hotel rest → Beijing Road → hotel

Metro Line 2 towards Jiahewanggang: Gongyuanqian → Yuexiu Park, exit E

  1. 13:00–16:00

Back to the hotel for the afternoon

After lunch, walk back to the hotel and rest until 16:00. Friday is the longer day, so this afternoon is free for a nap, charging the phone or simply sitting down. Recalculate the short return walk when the hotel and lunch venue are selected.
