Where to stay in Guangzhou

Liwan, Yuexiu, Tianhe and Haizhu solve different trips; arrival and departure matter more than a universal best district.

Decide how often you will travel between Xiguan and Zhujiang New Town, then compare the station walks.

Xiguan’s old streets and Zhujiang New Town lie on different sides of central Guangzhou. Choose according to where most of your sightseeing and evening meals will be.

Which area suits your stay?

Liwan and Xiguan

Where to look: Huangsha, Changshou Lu or Chen Clan Academy
Best for: Morning tea, Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, Enning Road and Shamian.
Tradeoff: The airport, Guangzhou South and repeated Tianhe visits need longer transfers.
Before booking: Compare the walk from the station exit to the hotel, with your luggage in mind.

Yuexiu

Where to look: Choose a station near your Beijing Road, Yuexiu Park or museum plans.
Best for: A mix of Nanyue history, old-city streets and museums.
Tradeoff: Yuexiu covers several neighbourhoods; the district name alone does not tell you how far the hotel is from Beijing Road.
Before booking: Check both your arrival-station journey and the last walk back after dinner.

Tianhe and Zhujiang New Town

Where to look: Zhujiang New Town or a station that serves your Guangzhou East arrival.
Best for: Guangdong Museum, contemporary architecture, business meetings and skyline evenings.
Tradeoff: Old Xiguan lies to the west; large blocks also make a nearby-looking hotel a longer walk.
Before booking: Use the hotel’s entrance address when comparing station exits, not the centre of its building complex.

Haizhu and the south bank

Where to look: Canton Tower or a useful Line 3 or Line 8 station
Best for: Canton Tower, riverside evenings and visits on the Haizhu side.
Tradeoff: A Haizhu hotel is not necessarily beside the tower or close to every nature attraction.
Before booking: Compare the actual journeys to your chosen Haizhu sights and your departure station.

Recheck before travel

Hotel names can hide a long walk from the nearest metro exit.
Do not change hotels just to save one cross-city transfer.
