Guangzhou in one, two or three days

Begin with Xiguan, add the old-city axis, then give the third day to the new central axis. Treat a mountain or Panyu day as a full alternative—not an extra layer.

Timings include walking, transfers, waiting, wayfinding, meals and about 20% buffer.

Classic first visit · Xiguan, the old-city axis and the new Pearl River axis

Guangzhou is easier when each day stays on one side of the river and within one urban story.

One day means day one only; two days means days one and two. The third day is an alternative-scale addition, not material to compress into the first two.

  • Arrival: ready to leave the hotel by 08:30.

  • Departure: after dinner on the final day; do not place Baiyun Mountain before an early flight.

DAY 1

Day 1 · Xiguan from breakfast to the river

Let morning tea set the pace, read Lingnan craft at Chen Clan Hall, then keep moving west through water, arcades and the river.

Why this order?Xiguan works as one continuous story. Architecture leads to a proper meal, the waterway leads into lived-in streets, and Shamian gives the long walk a shaded river ending.

02

DAY 2

Day 2 · Archaeology and the old-city axis

Begin beneath the familiar city at the Nanyue tomb, choose one substantial civic landmark, then let Beijing Road carry the route into evening.

Why this order? The route moves south through the old-city axis instead of collecting disconnected museums. Yuexiu Park and the memorial hall are alternatives, not two full visits to squeeze into one afternoon.

03

DAY 3

Day 3 · The new central axis

Use one reserved museum as the indoor anchor, rest through the hottest hours, then watch the Pearl River skyline change into blue hour.

Why this order? This is a contemporary-city day, not a spare afternoon for western Guangzhou. Keeping the museum, square and river together makes the scale of the new axis legible without relying on a pedestrian bridge.
